It has now been 12 years since Delonte West has no longer set foot on the NBA floors, but the former back of the Celtics, Cavaliers, Mavericks and Soncis continues to appear in the newspapers. Sadly…
Diagnosed as bipolar, the 40-year-old basketball player suffers from serious mental problems, and he was spotted in Dallas, panhandling, a few years ago. Mark Cuban had tried to help him and, for several months, everyone had thought that Delonte West was on the right track. He had even resumed training to try to join the Big3, this 3×3 league created by Ice Cube for veterans of the Big League.
The problem was, Delonte West quickly took a dive again, returning to the streets to panhandle, and getting arrested again in October 2022 for trying to get into a car that didn't belong to him.
And unfortunately, the descent into hell of LeBron James' former teammate continues since the Fairfax police, in Virginia, confirmed having arrested him under sad circumstances on Thursday morning. Having spotted Delonte West around 1:00 a.m., the police attempted to arrest him for violating the conditions of his release.
Except that he fled and after a chase, police officers discovered the former basketball player unconscious. They then administered a dose of Narcan, which is used to combat overdoses. A first dose that did not work and Delonte West was then taken to the hospital, a second dose proving effective.
Finally incarcerated, the ex-basketball player was released in exchange for bail, while waiting to appear before the judge.
