Death of Willis Reed (1942-2023)

Sad news that that of the death of the legendary Willis Reed (18.7 points and 12.9 career average rebounds), at the age of 80.

A man of one team, the Knicks, between 1964 and 1974, the “Captain” is one of the greatest players passed through the New York franchise. In “Big Apple”, he actually won two titles (1970 then 1973), finishing MVP of these two Finalsincluding a mythical moment during the 1970 series, against Wilt Chamberlain’s Lakers.

Seven-time All-Star and five-time member of an All-NBA Team, logically inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1982, Willis Reed is also part of the MVP club, because he had won the most prestigious individual distinction in 1970: 21.7 points and 13.9 average rebounds, to guide new York to a record record (60-22). Only five years after being voted Rookie of the Year, thanks to impressive averages – for a first year – of 19.5 points and 14.7 rebounds per game.

Named among the 76 best players in history in 2021, the “Captain” marked and made an entire generation of Knicks fans dream, half a century ago now. Little known to the general public, it nevertheless remains one of the best interiors of all time.
