Death of former player Joe Wolf (1964-2024)

It was the Bucks who announced the news : at only 59 years old, Joe Wolf went out. “Greatly respected, loved”he accompanied the Milwaukee franchise for eight years, “as a player and coach”.

The career of this 2m11 interior began at the University of North Carolina in 1983. He teamed up with Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins, before being named co-captain by Dean Smith for his last season, in 1986/87 , with Kenny Smith.

Joe Wolf was then drafted in 1987, in 13th position, just behind the trio Horace Grant, Reggie Miller, Mugsy Bogues. As a substitute, he had his best seasons in Los Angeles, before leaving for Denver and then regularly changing teams: Charlotte, Orlando, Portland but also Boston and Milwaukee. He retired in 1999, finishing his NBA career with 592 games and 4.2 points average.

Influenced by Dean Smith, coaching legend, he headed to the benches. He was an assistant at the university before joining the G-League where he managed several teams.

The former player will have his chance in the NBA, with stints as an assistant in Milwaukee and Brooklyn, between 2008 and 2016. His last experience will therefore remain that of assistant at Herb, the Bucks' G-League team, in 2023/ 24.
