Dearica Hamby replaces teammate Cameron Brink on Team USA's 3×3 team

Last week, Cameron Brink was injured in a game against the Connecticut Sun. A cruciate ligament rupture which prematurely ended his rookie season. And which also deprives the Sparks player of the Paris Olympic Games, where she was to participate in the 3×3 competition with the United States.

Finally, Cameron Brink will be replaced by her teammate in Los Angeles, Dearica Hamby. The interior averages 17.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks this season in the WNBA.

“It is an honor to announce the addition of Dearica Hamby to the USA 3×3 Women’s National Team and we look forward to working together as a team very soon.”, says Jay Demingsthe head of 3×3 for USA Basketball in a press release. “USA Basketball continues to keep Cameron Brink in our thoughts as she focuses on her recovery. »

Dearica Hamby was the 6th overall pick in the 2015 Draft, having been selected by the San Antonio Stars, who later became the Las Vegas Aces. The Aces with whom she won a title in 2022.

Rhyne Howard still present in the squad

She was also twice named 6th Woman of the Year with the franchise (2019 and 2020). But the story ended much less well following her second pregnancy, with the player accusing the franchise of having transferred her when the club learned she was pregnant.

Dearica Hamby in any case has a little experience on the international scene. Having participated in several Team USA training camps, she was part of the 3×3 team that won the 2023 AmeriCup, of which she was elected MVP. Team USA therefore replaces the MVP of the last World Cup with the MVP of the last AmeriCup.

Following the injury of Cameron Brink, the Atlanta Dream player, Rhyne Howard, also injured her ankle in a game against the Minnesota Lynx. However, his name still appears in the United States list, along with Hailey Van Lith and of Cierra Burdick.

However, Rhyne Howard remains unavailable until further notice and no return date has been communicated.
