Davis Bertans has been back in the pits since the restart. The reason for his absence from the Dallas training camp? An inflammation of his right knee, which he obviously has trouble explaining.
“I’ve had two anterior cruciate ligament surgeries, so those are things that tend to happen at times,” did he declare on the sidelines of Dallas’ victory over Utah, for his team’s final preseason game. “I’ve had a lot of things done to this knee in the past, so sometimes it might feel like nothing, but a weird movement can cause a reaction.”
In the dark
In this case, his right knee is still swollen, preventing him from preparing for the season in good conditions.
Davis Bertans did not however have the impression of forcing this summer, between the two qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup played at the end of August and the few “scrimmages” in September with his teammates in Dallas, during which ” everything was fine “ in his own words.
It is therefore difficult to find what caused the inflammation of his knee, which the Mavs staff diagnosed as an effusion in his right knee. The concern is that the days go by and that the regular season is fast approaching. For the moment, Davis Bertans has no visibility on what awaits him.
“I take it day by day, I do what the coaches tell me to do. As soon as I feel better, I can start ramping up. I don’t really have a precise timetable at the moment”.
No precipitation
Same story on the side of his coach, Jason Kidd, when asked if Davis Bertans will be ready for the first trip to Phoenix on Wednesday.
” We will see. He feels better. We will take things day by day. It’s a marathon. We hope he feels better over the weekend and can start doing things. But for now, he won’t be able to play.” he indicated.
While waiting for his return, Dallas will be able to rely on his depth with the return of Tim Hardaway Jr. to compensate. The idea is therefore not to rush things and to come back when he is at 100%.
“We know how dense the roster is in this team and everyone is ready to play, so I don’t feel any rush from the coaches and staff. I just want to make sure I’m healthy and ready to help. I’d rather be able to play more in the future than rush now.”concluded the Latvian.
