Darius Garland needs to find his rhythm (and his breath)

Returned last night, after more than a month of absence due to a nasty broken jaw, Darius Garland delivered a rather satisfactory performance with 19 points and 3 assists, at a very correct 7/12 on shots.

With the victory at the end against the Pistons (128-121), the All-Star guard could return home with the feeling of duty accomplished. A successful return from A to Z!

“I’m super happy to have been able to play again. I've been waiting for this for a month. It's good to be able to be with the team again and get back on the pitch with them to go for victories,” he explained after the game. “I still lack physical condition. I felt it from the first quarter! I just have to keep working every day, and it will come back. »

Forced to eat only liquids for several days, Darius Garland lost weight (between 6 and 7 kilos). Which he has not yet fully recovered. But the return to the game is now complete, the Cavs scorer wants to get back into rhythm as quickly as possible.

“It was long, that’s clear. My objective was above all to become part of the collective and the flow of the team. George [Niang] ensures at the moment, Caris [LeVert] made Curry. Craig [Porter Jr.] also brings good minutes. I just want to get back into the rhythm and not disrupt the rhythm of the team which is doing well at the moment. So I try to bring ball movement, and what I can do [sur le un-contre-un]. Without forcing. »

In a team which has digested his absence very well (as well as that of Evan Mobley) by winning 15 of the 19 games he missed, but which can hope to maintain its dynamic or even accelerate it now completely, Darius Garland returns with the right approach, humble and oriented towards the collective.

“At the end of the match in this case, I wanted to see where Donovan likes to receive the ball. Involve everyone because the defense will be focused on Donovan and me. It was all about finding open shots at Max [Strus] and Caris and to manipulate their defense as best as possible” he concludes.
