Danilo Gallinari keeps morale by clinging to “little things”

Touched in full preparation for the EuroBasket, Danilo Gallinari attacked the first stage of his rehabilitation after his operation of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee, on September 23rd.

The Italian international is therefore back at the Celtics training center to perform some basic exercises after having only resumed walking since last weekend. The opportunity to give his news in front of the media, in particular on his mental state in the face of such a blow.

I take things day by day. It’s the best way to approach rehabilitation and an injury like this, to approach it without really thinking about what’s going to happen in the future.”, he confided. “The positive side, and at the same time negative, is that I’ve been there before, so I know what to expect. But it’s always tough, especially when you come into a situation like this, coming to the Celtics ready to help the team win. It’s hard, but there’s nothing I can do about it.”

The importance of “small victories”

It is indeed the same injury, to the same ligament, that Danilo Gallinari had already had to overcome in 2013 when he played for the Nuggets. To hold on almost ten years later, and from the height of his 34 years, the 3/4 position will be motivated by the small improvements he sees on a daily basis, alongside the medical staff of Boston.

“The good thing is to see these small progressions every day. These are the things that make you happy and keep you going and trying to improve every day.”he continued. “Like when you do an exercise, and you manage to do it better than the day before. Physiotherapists add a few exercises every day, so it’s a good thing that happens every day. These little things are important in the rehabilitation process.”

The next step will of course be to find the field and for a shooter like him, to be able to take shots again, which should happen soon according to him.

“I can’t wait to start shooting a little, to put in free throws. Like I said, it seems like a small thing, but it’s huge in the rehabilitation process. But it’s not for now. They told me it will be soon, added Danilo Gallinari who sees himself coming back “stronger and better”.
