It was a dream that turned into a nightmare for Danilo Gallinari. Boston fan since childhood, the Italian joined a team cut out for the title, with an offensive joker role out of the bench perfect for him.
Unfortunately, his cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee with Italy changes a lot of things…
Given the timing, his age (34) and his injury history, it seems very difficult to imagine him returning to the field next season, the minimum recovery time for this type of injury being estimated at six months, but it is usually more between nine and twelve months.
Danilo Gallinari should therefore be heading for a white season, and the Celtics could then replace him by asking for a “Disabled Player Exception”which would allow them to sign a player with a salary of up to 50% of the Italian winger’s, or $3.2 million.
Except that ESPN assures that the former Knicks, Nuggets, Clippers or Hawks does not want to give up on the next season. Faced with Boston’s ambitions, and aware that this may be his best chance of winning the title, Danilo Gallinari intends to do everything to return to the field during the campaign.
Disabled Player Exception : when a franchise loses a player for a long period, it can ask the NBA to take advantage of an additional envelope to recruit a player. This “derogation”, granted after a study of the medical file, makes it possible not to count the salary of the injured player, and to offer a contract to his replacement for an amount equal to 50% of the salary of the injured player. With this envelope, you can sign a free player or a player on the cut list, but also make a transfer. The duration of the contract of the player acquired by this exception cannot exceed one year, and with this envelope, only one player can be acquired.
