D'Angelo Russell signs a smooth return to Brooklyn

After two average seasons at the Lakers to launch his career, D'Angelo Russell had reached a milestone in Brooklyn between 2017 and 2019, even becoming an All-Star. Then, he was sent to Golden State, when Kevin Durant decided to join Brooklyn, even though he didn't really want to leave.

Now that he's back in town, more than five years later, following the recent exchange, did he still have some anger left in him? “I understood the business as soon as I left. So no resentment, no hard feelings”, he answers.

He therefore made his return to the Nets against the Raptors, with a good match coming off the bench: 22 points at 9/13 shooting and 8 assists, in 26 minutes. Not bad for a first in a new team.

“It’s thanks to the coaches frankly. They offered me the best preparation, in a very short time, so that I could feel comfortable, organize the game, involve the guys,” he delivers. “Jordi Fernandez did a good job knowing where to put me so I could help him. So the credit goes to him. »

His coach returns the compliment. “He was excellent, in his commitment, his communication, his attention, in everything. We tried to simplify things. His ability to read the game and play the pick-and-roll is unique. He was active in defense too, deflecting balls”underlines the technician.

D'Angelo Russell's good game didn't surprise Ben Simmons. “He’s a real basketball player, he sees the game differently,” he believes, having already played with him during their younger years at Montverde Academy. “He can score and remains a good leader. Having him with us will help everyone. »
