It’s no longer a secret: Damian Lillard wants to join the Heat! The problem is that the leader does not have his destiny in hand since, unlike Bradley Beal, he does not have a “no-trade clause” which allows him to block an exchange that does not suit him. And as his contract runs at least until 2026, he cannot even threaten the franchises interested in his services to leave at the end of the next season…
As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, Aaron Goodwin, Damian Lillard’s agent, can therefore only try to dissuade the other clubs who inquire (Utah, Boston, etc.) from recovering the playmaker.
“I do what I have to do for my client” thus confirms the agent to the Miami Heraldin his first public comments on the situation. “I called some teams, other teams called me. With most teams, the relationship is respectful. And then, in truth, he wants to play for Miami. Period. »
Blazers pushed to negotiate with Heat
The concern is precisely that it is not an end point with camps that do not have the same objectives.
On the Portland side, we respect Damian Lillard but we don’t want to sell him off by accepting a bad offer just to please the All-Star. We must therefore raise the stakes, while with Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons, the Oregon club is not interested in the profile or the contract of Tyler Herro.
Miami’s offer would however be centered around the latter, plus two first rounds of Draft, in addition to another player, probably Duncan Robinson. An offer deemed unattractive by Portland, Miami needing to find a third team to transform Tyler Herro into something more attractive for the Blazers. Will Pat Riley get there, or will another club take the “risk” of recovering Damian Lillard despite his desires for Florida?
“I had a positive conversation with Joe (Cronin, the GM of Portland) and I was clear that Damian wants them to talk seriously with Miami. And I think Joe and the Blazers are going to do it.” assures Aaron Goodwin.
