Dallas files complaint after a funny arbitration misunderstanding

Kevon Looney who dunks on a throw-in, while all the Mavericks are on the other side of the field.

This funny scene took place towards the end of the third quarter and, in a match which was finally played at two points (127-125), it is a sequence which will obviously make a lot of talk.

Moreover, Mark Cuban immediately announced that he had filed a claim with the league. But what happened? On his Twitter account, the owner of the Texas franchise delivered his version of the facts.

“The umpire called the ball for the Mavs. The announcer announced it. Then there was a timeout. During the timeout, the referee changed his decision and didn’t tell us. Then when they saw us position ourselves as if the ball was ours, he just gave the ball to the Warriors, without saying a word to us. They had an easy basket. It was the worst officiating error in NBA history. All they had to do was talk to us and they didn’t. »

A double announcement that creates confusion

On the side of the referees, the version is obviously different. On the images, we also see that the official announces directly that the ball is for the Warriors. The problem is that he immediately announces a time-out for Dallas.

We thus see Kevon Looney complaining, the pivot thinking that the referee has changed his decision, but this one explains to him that the ball is for Golden State, but the time-out for Dallas…

Except that the interior of the Bay is obviously the only one to have had the explanation. On the Mavericks side, the announcement so close to the throw-in and then the time-out fooled everyone, and Jason Kidd’s troop thinks they can recover the ball after the stoppage of play. Even the other two referees do not don’t seem to understand.

It is therefore in confusion that the Warriors receive the ball and can score. From now on, the league will examine the situation to know if it is necessary to replay the match. But the last accepted complaint dates back to 2008…
