The mission was far from obvious, but Croatia pulled it off by beating Turkey in Istanbul in the final of the Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament. Winners 84-71, Dario Saric’s teammates (22 points, 11 rebounds) were able to impose their entry game to find themselves at +19 at the break (29-48)!
A sufficient gap to contain the Turkish waves in the second half without too much concern, despite all the good will of Furkan Korkmaz and Alperen Sengun (19 and 14 points). Croatia was able to count on its 3-point address (46%) to stay at a good distance and win 84-71 in this final.
Thanks to this success, the Croats qualify for the pre-Olympic tournament and keep their chances of accessing the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Like Poland, Bahrain, the Bahamas and Cameroon, Ivica Zubac’s teammates will participate in 2024 at the Olympic qualifying tournaments. They will pit 24 teams against each other, divided into four pools of six. The winner of each tournament will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
For the moment, only France, as the organizing country, is qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games. The World Cup will allow the allocation of seven tickets: 2 for the Americas; 2 for Europe; 1 for Africa; 1 for Asia and 1 for Oceania.
