Creighton to retire Doug McDermott's jersey

A little less than 10 years after leaving it, with a degree in marketing, to join the NBA, Doug McDermott will return to the university of Creighton next December 20. Date on which he will have the pleasure of witnessing the retirement of his number 3, which he wore with the Bluejays from 2010 to 2014, before joining the NBA.

An emblematic figure of the program based in Omaha, Nebraska, and even more broadly of the NCAA in the 2010s, the Spurs winger fully deserves this honor. In four seasons under his father Greg, “Dougie McBuckets” compiled 135 “double-figure” games (with 10 or more points scored), an NCAA record, and scored a total of 3,150 points, the fifth highest total the highest in the history of the American university championship.

Best NCAA player in 2014

The current Spurs winger was also named three times to an “All-American Team” (2012, 2013 and 2014), the equivalent of an All-NBA Team among professionals in the NBA, and won the trophy best player of the 2013/14 season, his last on the university boards (26.7 points and 7 rebounds per game).

We're excited to finally retire Doug's jersey “, also declared his father Greg McDermott, the coach of the Bluejays. “ His impact on this program has been immense. As Doug's father and former coach, I can't wait to celebrate this moment with him and the 18,000 spectators on December 20. »

We imagine that his Spurs teammates and coaches will also undoubtedly join this celebration, while San Antonio will play the day before in Milwaukee, and the next day in Chicago (1h30 by plane).
