Complicated recovery for Devin Vassell

While he was having his best season, Devin Vasell was held back by left knee pain. He therefore went to the pool table in early January, to undergo an arthroscopy. A little less than two months later, the Spurs full-back / winger returned to the court.

His first outings were mixed and his last one was downright missed, with only 6 points at 2/10 on the shot against the Thunder. There were plenty of absentees in San Antonio, so Oklahoma City’s defense focused on Devin Vassell, depriving him of space.

After four matches, he is only averaging 12.8 points at 38% shooting success and 25% at 3-pts. The difference with his start to the season is clear since, before his operation, he compiled 19.4 points at 44% success and 40% at 3-pts.

“He hasn’t found his rhythm and he’s struggling to come back,” observes Gregg Popovich at the Express News. “I think he’s a bit frustrated that his game isn’t where it was when he got injured. It will take him a little longer to feel comfortable again. »

There are fifteen matches and four weeks left for Devin Vassell to find sensations. Then, we will have to start from scratch next season.

“He was absent what, two months? When you are absent for two or three matches, getting back into the rhythm is not easy, so two months is always complicated. commented Zach Collins, his teammate who is well versed in long-term absence. “No one is really worried about him. Above all, we try not to be too hard on himself, because it takes time to come back. »
