Five billion dollars. This is the amount that many investors are looking for in order to “form an international basketball league to compete with the NBA”, explains Bloomberg.
To help set up their project, Maverick Carter was recruited, undoubtedly to take advantage of his address book since the latter is LeBron James' manager and as such he knows quite a few people in the basketball world. The bank UBS and the company Evercore are responsible for recovering the financing.
The idea would already be supported by Geoff Prenticeco-founder of Skype, Grady Burnetta former Facebook executive, as well as Jason Steina close friend of Maverick Carter and LeBron James now at the head of SC Holdings, a financial investment company.
But what would this new league look like? Perhaps inspired by Formula 1, we are talking about 12 teams, 6 men's and 6 women's, which would travel around the world to compete in eight different cities.
These teams would spend two weeks in each stage, while Singapore could be one of the interested markets. It now remains to find the means to finance the project, and above all to put it in place by recruiting stars of the orange ball likely to attract broadcasters, sponsors and especially fans all over the world…
