CJ McCollum “very happy” for Damian Lillard

A few months ago, CJ McCollum faced Damian Lillard for the first time in his career. However, the second still had a Portland jersey on his back. During their next duel, this will no longer be the case, the latter having been transferred to Milwaukee.

The two former Blazers players have left Oregon and CJ McCollum welcomes with a smile the outcome of the soap opera around “Dame”, who had requested his exchange for several weeks.

“I am very happy for him,” comments the Pelicans backline for The Oregonian. “Things didn’t turn out the way either side obviously wanted, but everyone got what they wanted, right? The Blazers got some young talent to rebuild, Dame joined a title contender. »

It was the priority of Damian Lillard, who hoped to be sent to Miami. Negotiations with the Heat were unsuccessful but landing in Milwaukee, to play with Giannis Antetokounmpo, is not the worst scenario.

“He always talked about the importance of winning a title and Miami would have been great for him, that’s what he wanted,” recalls CJ McCollum. “But we can estimate that its current situation is better than that of Miami, if we put aside taxes and the climate. He will be able to play with the man who is perhaps the best player in the NBA. I don’t mean to disrespect Jimmy Butler or Bam Adebayo, nor the franchise or the squad, but Giannis is something. He’s not like the others. Nobody dominates like him in the league. It’s really, really hard to defend against him. »
