CJ McCollum can't believe the Pelicans' bad luck

It all started (badly) with the injury to Dejounte Murray in the first match of the regular season. Then, it was the snowball effect in New Orleans. CJ McCollum and Herb Jones followed at the end of October, Zion Williamson also returned to the infirmary, without forgetting Trey Murphy III, absent at the start of the season, Jose Alvarado and Jordan Hawkins…

The New Orleans squad has been completely weighed down by injuries since the start of the season, which amply explains this failed start with 4 wins for 10 defeats.

“I have never seen a team with so many injuries at the same time and with so many important players”, summarizes CJ McCollum. “Usually there are one or two injured, we have to adapt and it remains complicated. There, we are talking about seven or eight players in the rotation. Except for Brandon Ingram, all the top earners are absent. »

“When are we going to be able to put our best players on the floor? For the moment, we have not done it”

As long as the injuries are so numerous and significant, the team can hardly hope to survive the pace in the West. “We have to get together very quickly”warns the former Portlander, who should return soon. “We have to start winning games and being healthy. Guys shouldn't rush. They must be in good health. Every match will be necessary. »

CJ McCollum can always remember that in 2021/22, the Pelicans started very poorly, with a record of 3-16, before coming back and making the playoffs. So all is not lost…

“We have to be healthy first. Everyone only thinks about that. When will we be able to put our best players on the floor? For the moment, we have not done so. We have already lost a lot of matches but there are still a lot left. Teams can experience several dynamics. For us, it's about being whole. »
