City of San Antonio unveils future Spurs venue

It is therefore at the foot of the Tower of Americaoffering a breathtaking view of Alamo Cityand not far from their historic factory-like venue, the Alamodome, which the Spurs are expected to call home soon.

“I'm going to say it loud and clear, if anyone thinks that after 2032 the Spurs will be playing at Frost Bank Center, I think they're wrong.”, said the mayor of San AntonioRon Niremberg, during a public presentation of the “Marvel project” at town hall, this Thursday.

One day after the opening of their new ultra-modern training center, the Victory Capital Performance Center, in the upscale Cantera district, in the northwest of the city, the Spurs hope to reach a new milestone with the release of this enclosure.

A cost estimated between 3 and 4 billion dollars

“The market value of Spurs has tripled”takes over the councilor, in office since 2017. “They have the most important NBA player on the planet on their roster. Every city in the country would love to have the Spurs. What we're trying to do is have a long-term vision for the Spurs in San Antonio.”.

So no more rumors of the franchise relocating to Austin, the Texan capital, an hour's drive from San Antonio, described as younger and more economically dynamic.

Tenants of the Frost Bank Center (18,400 seats) northeast of San Antonio since 2002, the Spurs will therefore have a fourth venue after the HemisFair Arena (1973–1993) and the Alamodome (1993–2002), with a return expected in the city center. However, many gray areas persist, particularly around the financing of this enclosure, the cost of which is estimated between 3 and 4 billion dollars, or the total capacity of the room.

“The goal is to create a dynamic environment combining sports entertainment, restaurants, shopping and residential neighborhoods that attracts locals and tourists alike, while stimulating economic vitality and promoting accessibility to our entire community”recalls the city's deputy director of municipal services, Lori Houston.
