“City Edition” jerseys to celebrate the Kings’ centennial

Every year, NBA franchises unveil a multitude of jerseys, more or less interesting.

Sacramento’s “City Edition” jerseys for the coming season deserve them that we linger there, because they will be associated with a field, and because they pay homage to the Cincinnati Royals of 1968, led by Oscar Robertson.

They are above all a way to celebrate the centenary of the franchise. Because the Sacramento Kings existed before the NBA. Initially, it was the Rochester Seagrams, a semi-professional team founded in 1923. In 1945, the club became the Rochester Royals and joined the NBL, then merged with the BAA to form the NBA.

In 1957, the Rochester Royals would move to become the Cincinnati Royals, then the Kansas City-Omaha Kings in 1972, the Kansas City Kings in 1975 and finally the Sacramento Kings in 1985.

It was during their years in Sacramento that the club adopted purple, abandoning royal blue, its original main color, which these centenary jerseys therefore put back in the spotlight.
