If it were necessary to award a trophy for the best “free agency”, the Lakers would be among the most serious candidates! Between the contract extensions of Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura and D’Angelo Russell, and the arrivals of Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes and so Christian Woodthe management has undoubtedly succeeded in achieving all of its objectives.
The workforce has come out stronger from this off-season with the contribution of Vincent at the back, the defense of a Prince, the verticality of Hayes or even the attacking qualities of Wood. The latter delivered his first impressions in a message sent to Andscape.
A broken promise?
“I always wanted to be a Laker, and I know you can win a title” he writes. “Communication with the coach was key. Coach Ham and I have known each other since Milwaukee, and we discussed this opportunity every day. He believes in me, and he told me that I was going to play a great role, and that he knew what I could contribute. I can’t wait to do it, and believe me, I’m motivated after what Dallas has done. »
Like James Harden with the Sixers, Wood may have been promised a contract extension. Back in January, when things were going well in Dallas, there was talk of a two-year, $36 million extension, and Wood was looking forward to it: “I’m happy to be here, and that’s all I have to say. The mood is good, and I’m ready to stay. »
Finally, no contract extension during the season, nor in July, and he signed up for minimum wage with the Lakers.
