Christian Braun, the rookie who is still not shy

Christian Brown is two wins away from making NBA history. It’s not with triple-doubles like Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, but simply because he could become the first player since Billy Thompson, in 1987, to achieve the “back-to-back” NCAA title / title NBA. He would only be the 5th player to achieve this feat, and before him, there was Bill Russell and Magic Johnson!

We are not there yet, and for now, the rookie from Denver will be content to be the X factor of Game 3 with his 15 points in 19 minutes on 7 of 8 on shots. An almost perfect game with baskets that hurt the morale of the Heat very badly.

“We had to bounce back after losing at home, and I’m taking advantage of a few opportunities” explains Braun on the set of TNT. “Of course, Nikola makes it easy for me… Then we knew if we made the right adjustments and played our basketball, they couldn’t beat us. »

For Jokic precisely, it is Braun “who makes us win the match. It’s a winner! As for Mike Malone, there are no words to qualify the performance of his rookie: “Christian was fantastic. He doesn’t come across as a rookie. He is aggressive, strong, physical and confident. His 15 points and 4 rebounds off the bench in 19 minutes had a lot, a lot of impact”.

“He won at all levels: high school, university and now he is in the NBA finals”

For the Denver coach, this performance is not surprising either because his rookie has earned his place in the rotation. “He’s proven that throughout the season… He finished the season in the rotation and he’s been in the rotation for 18 playoff games. If you look at the rookies, very few get game time at this time of year. That says a lot about his confidence. He is a “winner”. He won at all levels: high school, university and now he is in the NBA finals. Mentally and physically he remained ready throughout the season. »

Then asked about this statement from his coach, and this confidence that transpires from his game, Braun simply thanks his teammates.

“Guys have trusted me all year, so when I come on, I just try to defend and do the little things that will make it easier for me. As I said, my job is not very difficult: I just have to come into play, play with energy. Then they find me in the right places in attack and the defense gives energy. »
