Chris Paul did not just leave Cleveland with the bad news of his thumb injury (fracture) which will keep him away from the courts for several weeks. The Suns point guard was also honored by the WNBA.
“CP3” received the “Kobe & Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award” from the hands of the boss of the women’s league, Cathy Engelbert, and in the presence of Vanessa Bryant.
This trophy, of which Chris Paul is the first winner, rewards those who put “their time and talent” to promote women’s basketball and the WNBA, as Kobe Bryant did with his daughter, before their death.
The former Hornets and Rockets point guard is regularly present in the front row of WNBA matches and young girls are invited to his camps or as part of the “CP3 Basketball Academy”.
“I could see that Chris enjoys the WNBA and women’s basketball as a whole,” explained Cathy Engelbert. “His ardent support for our sport reflects the legacy of Kobe and Gigi. He is a leader and role model for other professional athletes in developing our sport for young women and fans. “
This games means so much to me and my family… to receive this award is an absolute honor. My daughter recently started hooping and while I’m excited for her, I’m most excited for the future of the sport. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/rfCWnrv51N
