Chris Paul must find his place in the Warriors offense

Where to put Chris Paul ? Not only on the question of his induction, or not, into the Warriors’ major five, but also on the floor. The playmaker excels in the art of organization and dribbling, while managing, where Stephen Curry and his teammates are faster and more rhythmic.

So how can we integrate the former Phoenix leader into a moving attack? Chris Paul has already spent several minutes with Stephen Curry to talk about it during training.

“It’s quite nice to try to find the solutions even if it’s easier said than done,” explains “CP3” to San Francisco Chronicle. “He plays in one way and I play in another,” notes the 2015 and 2016 MVP. “I will lead some moments of training, him others. We will sharpen our tools like this. Over time, we will do things individually according to needs, but here, for the training camp, for questions of rhythm, work, responsibilities, we do things together. »

“Our ability to adapt during a match, regardless of the group on the floor, must be our strength”

We must not forget Draymond Green, currently in the infirmary with an ankle injury. He is the second creator of the group, behind Stephen Curry, and Steve Kerr takes advantage of his absence to bring Chris Paul into the mold. But when he returns, the interior will find its place.

“For now, without Green, Chris and Stephen team up easily and share the tasks of distributing the game,” analyzes the coach. “Chris is a smart player, if Curry has the ball he knows what to do. When Draymond is on the field with them, Chris said, he will be the one in charge of setting the rhythm and moving up the field. We have to make the wingers run and Paul cannot stay back to release the ball. »

The Warriors will undoubtedly take a few matches to find the right balance but Stephen Curry does not seem worried. He believes Chris Paul’s talent can blend into the style of the 2022 champions.

“It’s still early to try to predict what this will look like,” warns the MVP of the 2022 Finals. “But I know how to play without the ball, I’ve done it many times. We have systems that enhance us and there will be times when Paul will be alone on the pitch and we will be able to adapt to what he is used to doing. He insisted on our way of attacking, of finding shots, and that will take time. I can’t wait to reveal this challenge. Our ability to adapt during a match, regardless of the group on the floor, must be our strength, because that is what the scenario demands. »
