Chris Paul is a graduate!

After graduating from Wake Forest University in 2005, Chris Paul resumed and completed his university studies in 2020 in Winston-Salem, his hometown, in an establishment listed among the “HBCUs” (“Historically Black Colleges and Universities”).

During the graduation ceremony, CP3 was therefore one of the winners and presented himself at the podium to officially receive his degree in communication.

Everything in discretion

Unlike the ceremony organized by Davidson for Stephen Curry, who had been inducted into the “Hall of Fame” and whose number 30 had been retired, Chris Paul preferred discretion. He was barely applauded for his action of rewarding each graduating student with a check for $2,500…

“I didn’t want to monopolize the attention”, did he declare. “I tried to make it as normal as possible. You know, all these students here have been struggling for a while to graduate. And I wanted to make sure that in no way was I trying to overshadow them on their birthday. They have a lot of family, relatives who are there to support them and see them. And I just wanted to be a graduate like that.”

A quick round trip

The leader has given himself a real mission to be there. After the victory won by the Suns on the floor of the Clippers, during which he played 36 minutes, CP3 took a private jet with several members of his family to cross the country and reach North Carolina. He then took part in the entire ceremony. The emotion grew until he went to the stage to collect his due.

“When I was about to step onto the stage, I was nervous, excited and had a sense of accomplishment. Knowing that my family was there, in an annex where I played many games in high school… And it was so great to watch and see my uncles and aunts, my grandparents, my parents who were there from the beginning . And then to see my wife, my children, it seemed normal to me”, he added.

He then left the premises in the middle of the afternoon to prepare for the reception of the Pelicans this Saturday.
