The Olympic semifinal between Team USA and Serbia was full of images and highlights. Even off the court, since Bogdan Bogdanovic's attitude, imitating Carmelo Anthony's celebration – hitting his head with three fingers after a three-point shot – was noticed by the main person concerned. The three-time gold medalist was in the front row, impassive, his face closed.
So much so that some thought that the former Denver and New York scorer had a grudge against the Serb and that the Hawks shooter was provoking. While this was not the case, we then saw it during the bronze medal match.
“I love the game, the competition. I always play with fire in me. That’s what I’ve been doing for a long time. I know some people think it’s a provocation. But that’s the media. For me, it’s fun and being competitive. I have nothing but love and respect for Melo, who is here as a FIBA legend. So, nothing but respect and competitiveness.”Bogdan Bogdanovic said.
Looking back, what did Carmelo Anthony think of this tribute? “This is my son”, he smiles. “I didn't say anything to Bogi. He played, scored a shot, I liked it. I wasn't trash-talking.” As the Serbian's performance was against the Americans, in a strong moment for Serbia, it was difficult for the former Team USA player to get excited, even if this match remains “one of the best matches” which he attended.
“I really wanted to celebrate. But I couldn't show any emotion. I wanted to be in it, it was crazy. I wanted to respond to him.”he continues. “But since I had to choose a side… I appreciated being taken up in my defense on this issue, but it was just love on his part.”
