He announced it soberly, via his Twitter account, with a short video of barely two minutes accompanied by a “Thank You”: Carmelo Anthony to retire.
After 19 seasons in the NBA, the 3rd choice of the Draft, without a club since the end of the 2021/22 season, thus leaves LeBron James as the ultimate active representative of the famous 2003 vintage. Legendary scorer, “Melo” ends his career without NBA title, but with three Olympic medals, 10 All-Star Game selections, 6 selections in an All-NBA Team and a place in the “NBA 75th Anniversary Team”. Not to mention an NCAA title with Syracuse.
A huge track record but no ring…
It is one of the richest awards of his generation, but he leaves the stage without a ring. Like other superstars before him, like Allen Iverson, Karl Malone, Reggie Miller, Steve Nash or even Charles Barkley.
As he announced in November, “Melo” now enjoys watching his son play and progress. “I’m relaxed…I can watch my children…I can watch my son play, train him, be around him, go to his games. These are things that I haven’t had the opportunity to do for a long time. From now on, I can be this father and the man that I must be. So, it’s OK. »
The video also ends on his son, called to continue the family legacy.
