Mid-July, Cameron Payne went from the Suns to Spurs and, only a month later, he already expressed his sadness at the idea of not having been able to stay in Phoenix, where he had (re)launched his career from 2019/20.
Finally, three weeks before the start of the “training camp”, he will not even have to play in Texas because the leaders of San Antonio decided to separate of his expiring contract ($6.5 million). It must be said that the Texan franchise had 18 players under guaranteed contract for 2023/24 and it must therefore still cut two elements between now and the opening of the season.
At 29 years old, Cameron Payne (9.8 points, 4.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds for four years) will in any case have the possibility of joining a more ambitious team than the Spurs, who decide to trust Tre Jones and Devonte’ Graham at the led. Note that the 14th choice of the 2015 Draft will not be able to re-sign with the Suns.
