What a great summer for French basketball! After the successful performances and silver medals at the Paris Olympic Games, for both men and women, and in men's 3×3, it's the youngsters who are taking over. In particular Cameron Houindo and his gang.
On Saturday, the French center and his teammates won the Eurobasket U16 by beating Spain in the final. Cameron Houindo (2m01, 16 years old) compiled 20 points and 11 rebounds in this match, then he collected the honors of an MVP trophy of the competition.
Power and athleticism
Undefeated with the Blues and present at the U17 World Cup, Houindo displays an incredible combination of power and athletic qualities, reminiscent of Tariq Abdul-Wahad or Guerschon Yabulese closer to us. With 13.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks on average during this tournament, he also secures a place in the starting five of the U16 Eurobasket, with his compatriot Louka Letailleur (7 points and 6 rebounds in the final) who displays averages of 10 points and 6.3 rebounds.
The other three players who make up this five? The Serbian Andrej Bjelic, with his 18.4 points on average; the Greek Chrysostomos Chatzilamprou, 17.9 points per game; finally the Spaniard Marcos Zurita, top scorer in the final with his 21 units, who averaged 16.4 points.
