According to the New York Postthe Nets are in last place in the NBA in season ticket sales with demand down more than 30% from last season.
The number of subscriptions is estimated at around 5,500 for this 2022/2023 campaign, i.e. around 30% of the room’s capacity. A total which is above all much lower than that of last season estimated between 8,000 and 9,000. Which is far too little when you know that the capacity of the Barclays Center is 17,732 places. A significant fall which can be explained by the average results, the request for an exchange of Kevin Durant last summer as well as the status of Kyrie Irving which raised a lot of questions. But other factors come into play.
Poor management
Despite the public returning to theaters after a long period behind closed doors, the Nets and Barclays Center lost between $50 million and $100 million. Losses that place Brooklyn among the worst students in the league.
The Nets also lost a large following after raising prices for some seats by more than 50% for the team’s 41 home games. The owner of the franchise, Joe Tsai, had even increased the price of subscriptions for the 2022/2023 season just before the start of the 2022 playoffs where Brooklyn had not lasted long.
After the first-round sweep against the Celtics, the Nets lowered prices this summer for some long-term season ticket holders. An initiative that obviously does not seem to have borne fruit as the franchise celebrates the 10th anniversary of its move to Brooklyn this season.
