Five days after winning gold against Team France, Breanna Stewart (Liberty) and the Olympians are back in the WNBA. The competition had been on hold since July 18, the time for an All-Star break and a short preparation for the Olympic tournament for Team USA.
The championship has therefore resumed and three matches took place last night and no fewer than six players from the American selection were in uniform.
New York Liberty Olympians Sabrina Ionescu and teammate Breanna Stewart didn't waver after the Games. They cruised to a 103-68 victory over the Sparks, scoring 18 and 27 points in just 23 and 20 minutes of play, respectively. With the win, Liberty even secured a new record in the league : it is the first team in a season to win three matches by at least 35 points.
No sign of letting up after the Olympics
The Mercury players were also in Olympic form, with Kahleah Copper's 29 points, Brittney Griner's 23 points and Diana Taurasi's 11 points in the big win (85-65) against Angel Reese's Sky (11 points and 15 rebounds).
Finally, all of Team USA's players won on Thursday night as Napheesa Collier's Lynx also won against the Washington Mystics, 79-68. The recent gold medalist finished as her team's top scorer and, in the process, recorded a nice double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
