Surprise team of the last World Cup, which it finished in a superb fifth place, the Latvia hoped to continue his momentum at the Paris Olympics this summer.
But to do that, they had to win their Olympic Qualifying Tournament at home in Riga…
The problem is that the Balts have hit a snag, called the Brazil. A Brazil that “Latvianized” Latvia with a 3-point barrage in the first quarter, with an incredible 8/8 from afar, symbolized by this shot from his camp by Bruno Caboclo, which placed the Seleçao at +23 (34-11) after the first round!
Roland Smits and his teammates tried to react in the second quarter, closing in on a reasonable lead (49-33) at half-time. But Latvia was unable to continue after the break, and so it was Brazil who won by a wide margin (94-69) and secured their ticket to the Paris Olympic Games.
Aza Petrovic's players are therefore in Group B, that of France, Germany and Japan.
