Brandin Podziemski runs on self-confidence

Next season must be that of confirmation for Brandin PodziemskiThe Warriors rookie went from the end of the bench at the start of the season to a starting spot, before finally becoming a substitute three weeks before the end of the regular season. A roller coaster ride that did not prevent him from being included in the “All-Rookie First Team” and being selected in the “Select Team”.

With Klay Thompson still not extended, Podziemski could become a starter alongside Stephen Curry next season, and he will therefore have to take a step forward to secure his place.

“It may seem simple, but I need to score more”, says the Warriors player. “We talked to Steve Kerr and Mike Dunleavy in the end-of-season meetings about what shots I'm going to take, and what kind of shots they want me to take. Obviously, with an extra year under your belt, you have a little more freedom and the opportunity to score.”

The 19th pick in the 2023 Draft averaged 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in his first season in the league, but he will have to do more to help the Warriors regain success.

Terrific self-confidence

“They know my passing and rebounding will always be there, like playing hard and stuff like that, it's something I've always had.” adds Podziemski. “Now it’s about how I can take the next step in my second year and be able to contribute a little more offensively.” »

But the rookie has not only impressed with his ability to find a place in the rotation or in the Warriors' major 5. Brandin Podziemski also has a big personality and the confidence that goes with it.

“Part of that comes from growing up in a family that always has the goal of winning. We want to win in everything we do,” analyzes who is part of the best five rookies. “The other part is the work you put into things you care about, and knowing that you're doing it for a reason. Third, basketball is not primarily a white sport, and part of the struggle is appearance. It was the combination of these three things that led me to have this confidence in myself. »

Confidence is also the mark of great players, and that's what he learned from his role models. “History always repeats itself, and those who have worked before you tend to succeed, so you kind of follow that motto,” adds the back. “A lot of the best players are super confident. Look at Kobe (Bryant), Michael (Jordan), even Steph (Curry), they’re just super confident people.”
