After nine seasons and 581 games played in Boston, Marcus Smart therefore left the Celtics, to be sent to Memphis. A surprise transfer, which will obviously leave a big void in the green house as the playmaker has embodied this franchise for some time.
A leader at heart, a strong defender, Smart had been a pillar of Boston for almost ten years. Brad Stevens, who coached the player, could only pay tribute to him.
“The greatest legacy you can leave is to leave somewhere and discover that it was better when you were there”, comments the Celtics president for Celtics Wire. “I think everyone feels it that way. It will always be appreciated. We will think of him with great affection, and for all sorts of reasons. »
Which ones?
“It’s obvious that everyone liked the way he played. He was playing hard. We also liked his work in the community. We are all very grateful to have had Marcus Smart in our lives for so long. »
Jayson Tatum’s tribute
For his part, Jayson Tatum also had a few words for his now ex-teammate, via his Instagram account.
“I will always be grateful for how you pushed me and helped me along this journey,” writes the winger. “Don’t change, keep being you, you are one of a kind and you can never be replaced!” My brother for life, no doubt, we will meet again one day. »
You set the ultimate example of what it means to be a Boston Celtic ☘️
Thank you for your tireless commitment to the community, for giving it your all every time you stepped on the court and for being our heart and soul for nine years.
