“He will have his chance.” This is what Wes Unseld Jr said before the meeting between the Wizards and the Mavs. It was his response to a question about Bilal Coulibaly, and the possibility of him taking on Luka Doncic. Indeed, upon his entry, the rookie from Washington took care of the Slovenian, and he did rather well, notably with this sequence, in the second half, when he continued against, then alley-oop on the superstar of the Mavericks.
On arrival, the Wizards lost again, but Bilal Coulibaly once again impressed with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and therefore 1 block in 28 minutes. 80% shooting. A very clean match, but the Frenchman is obviously disappointed.
“At the start of the match, we don’t play for each other, we don’t rotate in defense, and we don’t follow the instructions” he regrets, before talking about this first duel against Luka Doncic. “I love his game, and it’s always good to play against someone like him. I learned a lot, and I hope to do better next time. »
Coulibaly speaks in the locker room
After ten matches, Bilal Coulibaly already appears to be the best defender of his team, but he also lets loose in attack, with more risk-taking, ball in hand. And even though he is only 19 years old, he allows himself to speak in the locker room.
“Every time I find myself facing a superstar, I try to make a ‘stop’, and that helps me a lot” he continues on defense. “On offense, I’m just trying to see how I can help the team, whether it’s making baskets, or creating for others. In the locker room, I try to say what I see, and what we should do. If someone misses a rotation, I tell them. I say we have to stay focused and do what we have been asked to do. »
