Elected in the best five rookies with his 16.7 points average, Bennedict Mathurin had a very interesting first season at Indiana, coming off the bench. The young talent is not shy and his offensive qualities have done the Pacers a lot of good.
One point is particularly intriguing regarding the former Arizona player’s range: his 3-point shot. He finished the season with 32% success, but he had two very distinct periods.
“I think I took my game to the next level this summer,” he announces for the podcast Setting The Pace. “I am considered a penetration player, who starts on his left. But I shot well during my first 30 matches. The most important thing for me was my physical condition. »
Bennedict Mathurin is right to highlight his address at the start of the 2022/23 financial year. Over the first 20 games, he had a 41% success rate behind the arc, before dropping to 26% over the remainder of the season.
With his energetic game, and faced with the physical difficulty of a first season among professionals, the Canadian was unable to maintain this level of performance. No surprise then to have seen him working with Klay Thompson in September.
“I ran and shot a lot this summer,” he confides. “I’m not going to say more to avoid giving information to the other teams, but I’m eager to show myself. »
