Behind Caitlin Clark, the WNBA explodes its popularity records

Things aren't going well for the Indiana Fever on the field, Caitlin Clark and her teammates having once again been largely beaten by the Connecticut Sun (89-72), the best team at the start of the season.

Held at 10 points, at 3/8 shooting for a +/- of -30, the best scorer in the NCAA and her team are in 11th (and penultimate) place in the league at present, with 3 victories for 10 defeats. Only the Washington Mystics, who have still not won a match (12 defeats) are behind in the standings…

But the WNBA can congratulate itself of the craze caused by the arrival of Caitlin Clark and overall the entire crop of rookies. In addition to the Indiana player, Angel Reese (Chicago Sky), Cameron Brink (Los Angeles Sparks) and Kate Martin (Las Vegas Aces) also generated a lot of engagement on social media.

756% increase in sales on the WNBA Store

The WNBA thus brings together an average of 1.32 million viewers watching its matches broadcast on television this season, and that is three times more than last year's average (462,000 people).

Obviously, it is the Indiana Fever matches that serve as the locomotive for the league, with for example 2.12 million viewers for the opening match against the Connecticut Sun, or even 1.71 million viewers for the match against the New York Liberty.

Around 400,000 fans have already attended WNBA matches in the various venues during the first month of competition, a record for 26 years.

Above all, more than half of the rooms were full over the period, an increase of 156% while the occupancy rate reached 94%, again a sharp increase (+17 percentage points) compared to last season.

Same explosion in sales of derivative products, with a 756% increase in transactions recorded on the WNBA Store, on social networks, with an increase in views of 380% compared to the same period last season, or even on the League Pass, with a 335% increase in registrations!
