Because he's wrapping up a documentary about his life, Glen Davis won't be going to prison right away…

Last May, a New York court sentenced Glen Davis to 40 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his active participation in a vast health insurance fraud scheme set up by the NBA. Twenty-two people, including 18 former basketball players, were convicted of producing false medical certificates for an estimated five million dollars in damages!

While he has always maintained his innocence, the former Celtics center received the second-longest sentence, after Terrence Williams' 10-year prison sentence. “Big Baby” was also ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution to the victims.

He was due to enter prison this Sunday.

But Davis won't be going to prison right away… While he was supposed to be incarcerated starting Sunday, Judge Valerie E. Caproni granted him a seven-week reprieveand “Big Baby” now has until October 22 to begin serving his three-year, four-month sentence. The magistrate extended the deadline after his lawyer requested a delay so his client could complete a documentary film project about his life.

On Tuesday, attorney Brendan White said a Hollywood production company was involved in the project, and that there were delays in catching up on interviews with former teammates of Davis who were invited to talk about him in the documentary. The attorney added that the money Davis is expected to receive from the project will go toward reimbursing one of the fraud victims.
