Bam Adebayo teaches the principles of Heat in Africa

Like Jonathan Kuminga, Jalen Suggs and Darius Garland, Bam Adebayo is one of the NBA players present in Johannesburg, South Africa, to coach young talents from the continent as part of the Basketball Without Borders program.

The All-Star interior is no longer in his role as a Heat player, but his frankness is never far away, even when he dons the coaching costume.

“I can answer both questions with one word: standard,” declares the 2023 finalist at ESPNwhen asked what he teaches young people and what his team culture is like. “The Heat have standards, and therefore we confirm these principles. We are eager to be accountable to these principles. It means winning matches and lifting the trophy at the end of the season. Here, it’s the same for my team: we want to win all the matches. We’re going to give it our all on the court. »

Bam Adebayo has African roots, in Nigeria exactly, on his father’s side. He had even been approached by the national team in October 2020, when he had not yet worn the Team USA jersey.

With this trip to South Africa, the player from Miami discovers that he is very popular on the African continent. “I didn’t really know that. I appreciate this support and it’s great to see that I have so many fans. I had this opportunity to be surrounded by the best players in Africa, and it is above all for me to help these kids. This is the most important for me. »
