In the prime of life (27 years old in July), Bam Adebayo seems to have taken the reins of Heat ahead of Jimmy Butler, given his new status as captain of the franchise, who never makes waves, and a player robust enough to string together matches.
Consequently, this professionalism combined with his good performances (18.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 interceptions and 1.0 average block over the past five years) should allow him to land a contract extension in the coming weeks, as indicated by the Miami-Herald.
The All-NBA Teams will determine the amount
Although he is, of course, under a guaranteed contract until the summer of 2026, Bam Adebayo is eligible for a contractual extension from this summer and he should therefore not take long to receive it. Among the best interiors in the league, three-time referenced All-Star, Top 3 in the vote for Defender of the Year and candidate for a place on an All-NBA Team, in addition to being one of the new regulars of Team USA, he does not fail to assume his responsibilities for the Heat night after evening.
The playoffs of the former Kentucky resident have demonstrated this since, despite his premature exit in five games against Boston, the double NBA finalist (2020 then 2023) produced nearly 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 average passes (50% shooting and 71% throwing). Enough to allow Miami to temporarily create an illusion against the best team in the league, despite the absence of a Jimmy Butler who especially stood out (and was reframed) off the court.
New guarantor of this famous “Heat Culture” so dear to Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra, Bam Adebayo seems to be on the right track to settle down even more permanently in Florida. It remains to be seen at what cost, because it will mainly depend on his presence, or not, in one of the three All-NBA Teams at the end of the year. If it appears there, the pivot will be able to obtain $245 million over four years (the “ super max “), but if it is not there, it will drop to $165 million over three years.
