The Warriors boat rocked after the conference semi-final elimination against the Lakers last season. There was the prospect of the departure of Bob Myers, architect of the dynasty at Golden State, and the threat that he would be imitated by Draymond Green, free agent, not to mention the handling of the Jordan Poole case.
A little over three months after the defeat in California in Game 6, everything is back to normal. Mike Dunleavy Jr. succeeded Bob Myers in the spirit of continuity. In the same vein, Draymond Green has returned, and the franchise has managed to trade Jordan Poole to recover Chris Paul and ensure its place among the teams able to regain the title this season.
Getting back on track…
It now remains for the mayonnaise to resume over the regular season so that Steve Kerr’s training is at its best in mid-April.
“I think one of the things that will help us the most is the desire to win a title. We want to play until June. Not having been able to do it last season gives us a little more time to regroup, to prepare, to rethink things., said Mike Dunleavy Jr. on NBC’s “Dubs Talk” podcast.
When taking stock of last season, the new GM of the Warriors admitted that the trials had been many, evoking half-words the confusion between Jordan Poole and Draymond Green.
“We had a slow start to the season, with an inglorious road trip to the East, and we always swam against the tide afterwards. I hope the pace of this offseason will help us a lot more. We also realized that we had to improve in terms of connection and that we had to be welded. I know Steve Kerr emphasizes that, which is great.”
An entry tour
Among the axes of progress, there will also be the management of away games which was a recurring problem last season with only 11 wins out of 41 games played! Only the dunces Houston, San Antonio and Detroit have posted a worse record for the season!
The Warriors will also be able to quickly tackle this problem since after their Opening Night against the Suns at the Chase Center, they will chain seven trips over the next eight games. A blessing in disguise according to Mike Dunleavy Jr.
“Talking to our players, to our coaches, to the whole franchise, we feel a bit of a desire for redemption after the difficulties of last year on the outside. We want to go back and prove ourselves.” he added on the sidelines of the publication of the calendar. “Some people may find it a problem to start traveling early in the season. We all want to get off to a good start, but for us, we are eager to seize the opportunity and get into the competition early. It’s something that feels like we have to recover from last year, and I know our guys will be ready and motivated.”
As such, Mike Dunleavy Jr has made an appointment for the end of November, after 20 regular season games, to draw up an initial assessment.
“The first 20 matches are a good indicator of what you are. At this point in the season, I think you have a good idea of what you need to try to improve or continue to do. It will be very important for us to get off to a good start, and these first 20 games are a good indicator.”
