Away from the United States, France gains five places in the FIBA ranking

After the 2023 World Cup, FIBA updated its ranking. An operation repeated in February 2024, then especially in this month of August. The Olympic Games obviously have a big impact on the changes that we can observe. Olympic champions, the United States logically keep the first place. But behind, things are moving.

Serbia, the bronze medalist, gains two places and thus overtakes Germany, the 2023 world champion (against… Serbia) and which keeps third place. The big loser is therefore Spain, second in 2023 after having occupied first place for eighteen months. The “Roja”, which did not pass the first round at the Games, loses four places!

The one who benefits is France, with its final. The Blues gain five places and find themselves in fourth place. Canada also moves up two notches, with fifth place.

Then, the FIBA rankings do not change much further. Except for the small falls of Australia (7th, two places less) and Latvia (9th, three places less). It should be noted that South Sudan, certainly not yet in the Top 20, continues to climb. Last summer, it had gained 32 places to reach 31st, and now, after a great competition in France, the country occupies 23rd place.
