Since LeBron James announced his intention to compete in the Paris Olympic Games, alongside Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Anthony Davis and even Joel Embiid, this supercharged American team has been compared to the Avengers, this group of superheroes from the Marvel universe.
Obviously, Marvel Entertainment also heard the comparison and decided to make it a reality.
As the company had already done in 2018with the American Olympic athletes who participated in the skiing and snowboarding events, Marvel proposed to Grant Hill, the boss of Team USA, a collaboration with Nike to really make the United States the “Avengers” of the Paris Olympics!
“Making LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and company the sporting equivalents of Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk was obvious” explains Dan Fooldayin charge of partnerships at Marvel. “As a fan of comics, LeBron James was particularly enthusiastic and he pushed other players to validate it”
The result ? It is therefore a jersey inspired by the Captain America costume, Marvel really wishing to remind people that the members of this formation are “super heroes, in their own way”…
For the comics giant, this jersey is the fusion of “two of the most powerful American scorers, namely its basketball team, which has four Olympic titles, and its superheroes, whose comics and films have marked several generations around the world.”
Namor fan, Grant Hill, however, reminds us that great power comes with great responsibility, and that this jersey can only be crowned with the gold medal. But the boss of the American federation says he is certain that he will give additional energy to his players to validate victories of 40 or 50 points until the title, as Kevin Durant wishes. Without transforming Joel Embiid into “Invisible Man”.
