At Magic, we focus first on continuity

After having managed an average second part of the season, with 50% victories, which is already progress for this franchise which has been in great difficulty for several seasons, the Magic and Jamahl Mosley will have to confirm next season.

It’s always the most difficult situation: trying to ride a wave several months after the end of last season. The Florida coach is aware of this but is reassured by the little movement made during the offseason.

“I firmly believe in continuity and stability”says Jamahl Mosley to HoopsHype. “I’m sure a lot of coaches talk about how stable they are, like Steve Kerr, Erik Spoelstra, Michael Malone and Gregg Popovich. It’s the same for the players and we haven’t made many changes. We have the same group, with Joe Ingles, Jett Howard and Anthony Black added. The message remains the same, so players already present will be able to relay it to those arriving. The players know what to expect, they know how we work. »

Continuity = stability

Doing better with the same group, taking advantage of the alchemy and common experience, in addition to the good summer performances of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner at the World Cup, this will be the ambition of the Magic. With the desire to win even more.

“We are going to focus on this stability. How can you play consistent basketball, take care of the ball and defend at a high level? “, lists the coach. “We are going to ask the players to grow and be demanding with details. When we progress, we must learn to win. We did it at the end of last season. We weren’t far from going to the play-in. The players understood how to prepare and approach each meeting but also important matches. »

With the Magic finishing last season with 34 wins, what is the goal for next season? Break even with 41 successes? Qualify for the play-in?

“Our mindset is: How do we play our best basketball in April and May? We will continue to progress,” announces Jamahl Mosley. “All the teams want to make the playoffs and win the title, they all say it. I want our team to improve, without necessarily focusing on wins and losses. What is improvement? Play good basketball that allows you to see continuity, joy and solidarity. We measure things like this. If we do that, the victories will follow. If we don’t lose balls and we don’t give away rebounds, then we’ll be fine. »
