At 38, Rudy Gay officially announces his retirement

We had no more news from Rudy Gay since last year, when he was invited to the Warriors' training camp, without ultimately managing to join the Bay squad for the season.

A year later, the former player of the Grizzlies, Raptors, Kings, Spurs and Jazz announced in any case, in a published article on The Players' Tribunethat he officially ends his professional career.

At 38 years old, the man who averaged 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in 17 seasons bids farewell to the Big League at the end of a career which could (should?) have been much more significant, as he admits. -even.

“I would be lying if I said my career has gone exactly the way I wanted it to.

Let's be realistic. This is not the case.

You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it.

My story is not a fairy tale. In the end, I'd say it was…complicated. Just in terms of how everything happened. The injuries have been tough to swallow, that's for sure. And, for one reason or another, I repeatedly found myself with teams in middle-of-the-road situations that just weren't ideal, or with teams in some sort of internal turmoil.

In those moments it was of course difficult. And at times it almost felt like it was too much. But at this stage? At the end? I can't be upset about these things forever. Spend the rest of my life thinking about what could have been? Being angry, bitter and grumpy? To be that kind of guy?

No, thank you.

These are the cards I was dealt. And I can honestly tell you that I did my best with these cards. Maybe I wasn't the best player on the planet, but I definitely tried my best.

Everything hasn't always been perfect. I could have done more or been better. But you know what? At the same time… in some cases, on some nights, the result was really cool. And the circle I formed, the moments I shared, the teammates and coaches I worked with, made the journey worth every moment. »

Never an NBA champion, never an All-Star, Rudy Gay has never passed the first round of the playoffs, but he still retires with two gold medals with Team USA, at the 2010 World Cup and 2014.
