At 34, Gordon Hayward retires!

The announcement of Gordon Hayward has something to surprise because, on his social networkshe simply made his retirement official!

At only 34 years old, the winger is retiring from the courts while he was said to be targeted by the Nuggets this summer. He was at the end of his contract, after a last “disappointing” and “frustrating” stint in Oklahoma City. Before that, the Indianapolis native had been to Utah, Boston and Charlotte, posting statistics of 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 interceptions on average in 14 seasons in the league.

An All-Star Game…and a terrible injury

At the peak of his career in 2016/17, on the Jazz side (21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 interception), Gordon Hayward will have notably experienced the joys of the All-Star Game. He was chosen in 9th position of the 2010 Draft, after leaving Butler University, with which he played in the NCAA final that year (lost against Duke). He was, moreover, one of the last two representatives of this vintage still active, with Paul George.

But when we think of “Gordie”, we also think of his terrible ankle injury, contracted at the start of the 2017/18 season, when he had just joined the Celtics to experience his best years as a basketball player.

Although he managed to return to an interesting level later, the now retired player never managed to reach the top with the C's, his body often failing him in Massachusetts and then with the Hornets.

For now, it is unknown what Gordon Hayward's post-career will be like, as he already says he wants to spend more time with his family and use his NBA experience in the business aspect. With his various contracts, he has amassed more than $270 million since 2010.
