It had been more than seven months since Rob Murphy was sidelined in Detroit following accusations by a former Pistons employee who complained of a “inappropriate behavior” of the GM helper.
The franchise had since let a law firm investigate the matter.
“Rob Murphy no longer works for the Detroit Pistons or the Motor City Cruise (the team affiliated with the club in G-League), in any capacity” the club finally explained in a press release relayed by the Detroit Free-Press. “Mr Murphy was recently dismissed for breaching club policy and the terms of his employment contract. The facts that led to her dismissal emerged during the review, with the assistance of a national law firm, of allegations made by a former employee.”
The Pistons do not intend to communicate more about the exact nature of what is alleged against Rob Murphy. Nevertheless, the latter is therefore fired, less than a year after his promotion as assistant GM of the club.
President and GM of Motor City Cruise since March 2021, he then joined the first franchise in September of the same year, before quickly climbing the ladder to find himself in charge of all the “scouting” of the club, whether at the level professional, but also for prospects at university or high school.
Before that, he had been an NCAA assistant for a long time, at Kent State (2002-2004) then Syracuse (2004-2011), before becoming a “head coach” at Eastern Michigan University, between 2011 and 2021.
