Another historic evening for Caitlin Clark

It's record time for Caitlin Clark. The Iowa superstar earned himself a new line in the history books on Wednesday. In the Hawkeyes' large victory over Minnesota (108-60), the leader became the best scorer in the history of university basketball, a few days after obtaining the same rank in the history of the women's NCAA, dislodging Kelsey Plum.

The main university championship does not take into account seasons played before 1982, when women's basketball at the university was not then under its control but that of the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.

Within the AIAW, Lynette Woodard had thus scored 3,649 points with Kansas, before becoming captain of the United States Olympic team in 1984. The first woman to play for the Harlem Globetrotters, she was admitted to the Hall of Fame in 2004. With her 33 points on Wednesday , Caitlin Clark erased it from the shelves.

Pete Maravich's record in the sights!

I'm really grateful to have these players who shone before me.” reacted the evening star. Lynette is obviously one of the best players of all time. This shows that there is always room for improvement, and women's sport is really moving in the right direction. »

Tonight is truly the record match » affirmed for her part her coach Lisa Bluder. “ For some reason, the NCAA does not want to recognize basketball played before 1982 and it is wrong. It affects everyone like us who played at that time. There's no reason why it shouldn't be the record. »

Caitlin Clark delivered another very classy performance with 33 points at 8/14 behind the arc, including some shots taken as usual from the logo, accompanied by 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Her eight award winners also gave her the record for 3-point baskets in a single season in the women's NCAA.

A new mark now presents itself to her, the all-gender record in the NCAA held by Pete Maravich, now at only 17 points. A priori more than a formality for the one which is running at 32 points per game, while a shock awaits Iowa against Ohio State, seed number 2 in the championship, Sunday evening.
