She did it! After breaking the record for consecutive double-doubles by a rookie, then the record for consecutive double-doubles in a season, and finally tying Candace Parker's record for consecutive double-doubles, Angel Reese on Sunday became the first player in WNBA history to post a 13th consecutive double-double!
The undisputed queen of the “double-double” in her first season in the WNBA, the Chicago Sky center compiled 17 points (8/15 shooting) and 14 rebounds in the defeat against the Seattle Storm.
“I just try to be consistent for my teammates, doing whatever I can to help my team,” explains Angel Reese. “I think I didn't do enough tonight, I just have to be there for my teammates and know that I have a job to do every day, no matter if I'm a rookie or a veteran.”
Already in WNBA history
Angel Reese also paid tribute to Candace Parker, WNBA champion with the Sky in 2021.
“I want to continue to have my name alongside his, I want to win. Being able to come to Chicago and represent his city and bring home a title will be the biggest thing for me and what I look forward to,” thus affirms the 2023 NCAA champion with LSU.
In her rookie season, Angel Reese made history in the women's championship, but the center obviously doesn't intend to stop there.
“It's great for me to be able to know where I am at the moment and obviously I'm not happy with where I am,” she considers. “I have coaches and teammates around me that believe in me and trust me and I continue to trust this whole process. I’m grateful. I’m privileged and blessed to have my name alongside these incredible players. They’ve always been really nice to me. They’ve always helped me and been inspiring. I’ve watched them my whole life and to finally be here now and break their records and be able to be up there with them, it’s really cool.”
