Andre Iguodala sees Jordan Poole becoming a leader at Wizards

While the 2022 title and his contract extension seemed to make Jordan Poole a major part of Golden State’s future, Draymond Green’s punch changed everything for the Warriors.

As confirmed by Steve Kerr, there was a (logical) break within the group, with a Jordan Poole who did not make waves but who was clearly no longer comfortable in the locker room. Not even in the field.

“He was running at 20 points on average” recalls Andre Iguodala in the Gilbert Arenas podcast. “In a bad year. He collects free throws. He was the only one who went down the line consistently last season. People talk like he’s had a bad season. But I say, ‘Okay, a bad season? You criticize him for our season when he averaged 20 points. He will average 25 points easily. Because he will go on the line. Especially at home, where he will turn to 30 points. »

No longer a leader in “his” team?

It is true that Jordan Poole was the Warrior who went the most on the free throw line (5.1), just ahead of Stephen Curry (5.0). An area in which Golden State has indeed suffered throughout the campaign.

However, the efficiency of the back has still dropped overall (from 45% to 43% success in shooting, and from 36% to 34% at 3-pointers) with shooting choices that sometimes exasperated Steve Kerr and his teammates, as he lost more and more balls (3.1 against 2.5 the previous season).

But for Andre Iguodala, it is undoubtedly linked to the context, and Jordan Poole should be able to shine again in “his” team. Especially since he already sees him becoming a real leader for these Wizards in reconstruction.

“He is already starting to make the right adjustments”concludes the 39-year-old veteran, who should (normally) retire. “I heard about what he was doing with his teammates. The other day I was asking him about his teammates and he knew everything about each one of them. And I said to myself: ‘OK, we are starting to be on the right track’. He took them all to Los Angeles. It was he who did it! He is their leader. »
