The distribution of minutes in the racket is one of the common threads of the Nets season. After Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge and Nic Claxton, Steve Nash seems to have found his new pivot of confidence: Andre Drummond, who arrived ten days ago as part of the James Harden – Ben Simmons exchange.
” Our biggest problem is that we have trouble picking up rebounds“, remarks the Nets coachwhose team recovers only 70.9% of defensive rebounds, which places them in 25th position in the league.
The technician sees in his new recruit “ a natural rebounder who averaged more than 13 career rebounds and finished as the league’s No. 1 in rebounds four times. ” It’s also a big one that can protect the circle. He is good defensively and can be present offensively. It is good for rolling and playing above the hoop “continues Steve Nash.
The latter considers that the former Pistons, Cavs and then Lakers pivot ” fills the needs “within his team and offers a face” totally different ” on this position 5. The idea is therefore to acclimatize him as well as possible and allow him to progress on the physical level. Consequently, ” he will play more minutes for us depending on how we plan. He was used to (replace Embiid) but we ask him to play more.“
Andre Drummond already “tired”
His playing time has already increased slightly since his arrival in New York. Limited to 18 minutes with the 76ers, he is running at nearly 22 minutes after three starts with the Nets. The impact on his statistical production is however direct: he went from an average of 6 points and 9 rebounds to 9 points and 12 rebounds!
To the point that the interested party does not hide being… “ tiredness since he’s been in Brooklyn.
” It’s going from a different situation, coming off the bench with limited playing time, back to my normal playing time (note: 31 minutes in Detroit) where I need to get back in shape. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been doing physical conditioning in the morning and after the game. I should be back to normal by the end of the ‘All-Star break’, having regained this speed and this mode of operation.“
As a result, LaMarcus Aldridge, his replacement, is on track to keep his role as the 6th luxury man, where Blake Griffin should be content with crumbs behind.
The young Day’Ron Sharpe and Nic Claxton, out of the rotation since the transfer, would thus be condemned to remain on the bench. The multiple physical glitches of the second did not play in his favor. The Nets would have been two fingers to send it to Toronto against a single first round of Draft…
